C.W. no. 80

Everyone came to the town’s perimeter to see if it was true: little Sophie had locked a panther in the old bottle tree prison. She was still sitting on the outside of the iron door as the animal screamed and whirled in wild circles inside the ancient, hollowed trunk. Her small shoulders were shaking and dirty tear tracks marked her face. When a man asked her if she was alright she shook her head and begged to be allowed to let the beast out, crying that she had made a terrible mistake. They didn’t listen to her of course, but lead her away before the crack of a rifle ended the prisoner’s sentence.
